Telltale Programmer Calls Out Wii

July 31st, 2009 by pixelsocks

In the launch wake of Tales of Monkey Island, complaints have surfaced about the Wii port’s framerate. A compromised port isn’t normally news, but one of Telltale’s programmers has responded (vi gamezine) to the complaints by drawing some unflattering comparisons to Nintendo’s Wii, and there’s no news like some juicy gossip.

The programmer is registered as Yare on Telltale’s forums. Said Yare, “Frame rate issues will probably get sorted out eventually, but keep in mind that the Wii is just not a powerful console. An iPhone is much more powerful than a Wii, even.” Later pressed, Yare later refused to recant his previous comments, saying, “I stand by them. The Wii and DS are extremely underpowered and their popularity doesn’t remove the hardware limitations.”

It’s been a while since anyone notable bothered to hassle the Wii’s hardware in a public forum, and this is the first time since console sales hit a brick wall. Are there any hardware geeks out there who could do a rigorous comparison?
