As was predicted in the dead sea scrolls, the Fieldrunners update has arrived, and it’s a biggie. The iPhone tower defense game now has two new maps, Skyway and Frostbite, and each will set you back $0.99. The new maps are more complex and ambitious than earlier offerings, with terrain features in Skyway and a shorter run for your enemies in Frostbite. The maps also feature new Fieldrunners to kill and new towers with which to kill them.

There’s a substantial update for the meisers in the audience as well, beause Fieldrunners is now integrated with OpenFeint. This means that the app now integrates with facebook, Twitter, and offers a simple chat protocol and friend lists.

Even If you’re no social networking butterfly, OpenFeint still means achievements and leaderboards. There’s also a new feature called challenges that expands the gameplay modes, including a marathon mode where you play with finite resources, time trials, and a sudden death mode where you play with one hit point. You can just play the challenges if you like, or you can send them to your friends to swash your buckler a bit.

So what are you waiting for? Those cute little red guys won’t gun themselves down.
